If there’s one word that sums up the 80’s it’s “Rad” (we were going to go with “crimped hair” but that’s two words). It’s not that the 80’s were that great…in fact, when we look back at all the mullets, neon clothes, shoulder pads, and pegged-jeans, we’re kind of sad about taking part in all those fads. But you couldn’t say two sentences in the 80’s without saying the word “rad” at least 42 times. With that in mind, here is our countdown of the five music videos that made the 80’s rad: 5. Twisted Sister - We’re Not Gonna Take ItThis video has the longest intro ever…and usually that makes us so bored we start punching ourselves in the face just to keep from dying of boredom…but there’s something so wonderfully campy about that kid hitting the electric guitar and blasting his dad out the window before turning into Dee Snider that makes this video a rad exception to the rule. 4. Paul Simon - You Can Call Me AlFrom Saturday Night Live to the National Lampoon’s Vacation movies, to Fletch, to Caddyshack, Chevy Chase was the Will Ferrell of the 80’s. From the first words, when Paul Simon opens his mouth to sing, and Chevy steals the song away from him (and Paul Simon frowns and walks out), we were hooked. 3. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - Don’t Come Around Here No MoreAs if Alice in Wonderland wasn’t psychedelic enough, Tom Petty dresses like the Mad Hatter and turns Alice into a cake that he cuts up for his friends at the tea party…weird stuff…rad…but weird. 2. A-Ha - Take On MeYou can’t talk about 80’s music videos without talking about Take On Me this video was so rad, it should have won an Oscar, an Emmy, and a Nobel Peace Prize. 1. Mr. T - Treat Your Mother RightWords can’t describe how awesome Mr. T is. Basically, what we’re trying to say is that we pity the fool who doesn’t watch this video. |

Mr. T might pity me and consider me a fool, but “You Can Call Me Al” should have been in the number one spot. Also, remember the movie Howard the Duck? Wasn’t there some creepy (yet 80’s awesome) video that went along with that? Cause cursing outer space duck + a crimped haired Lea Thompson = rad.
